FAQ

How long do framed insects last?

Potentially, they can last forever. Insects are obviously organic and can be destroyed by parasites as moulds, fungi or other insects.
Therefore we pay attention to treat them carefully and properly during the storage and the framing. At first they undergo a disinfestations obtained by a freezing process and the use of proper chemicals. When necessary soft tissues are hardened. The frames are closed with hot glue which provides a good seal against the infiltration of potential noxious agents.
With a correct preparation and preservation procedures there are no problems about the long conservation of the framed insects, as it happens, for example, to millenniums-old mummies’ hairs, whose substance is similar to that of which insects’ body is made.

How to preserve the frames?

Suggestions to be followed for a perfect preservation of the frames are:

  • keep the frames whole and sealed
  • do not expose it to direct sunlight nor heat sources
  • do not keep it in particularly humid places.

Are all exemplar perfect?

Obviously, they can't be all perfect. They are not machine-made, therefore there can be imperfections as body asymmetry, colours which can be less vivid and light abrasions in the most delicate subjects. This is to be considered normal.
To some butterflies like those belonging to the genus Morpho, for example, the abdomen has been removed, because of its high fat content that otherwise would stain the wings.
All the collections specimens’ and subjects’ colours are natural and not artificially modified. Anyway, a light colour modification may occur, due to digital copy and its video visualization.
